A Garage Floor System Makes Your Garage Look Great

Having a concrete floor in your garage makes you aware of the ugly it can become once little amounts of oils start to drip or you accidentally spill while you do an oil change or brake job. To get rid of this ugliness or avoid it you should apply a garage floor system where an epoxy based product is utilized. You can have all types of different floor coatings for a concrete floor, just like latex paint and enamel, but an epoxy coating stands out if your criterion is its longevity.

An epoxy has two main components that are mixed well together. Once combined, they form a chemical reaction that results in a very hard and durable solid surface. These two ingredients are actually liquid in form until they are combined to form a mixture and are permitted to cure. Through curing, the liquid mixture turns into a solid that is very hard. This same method is used for the production of camper shells and fiberglass boats. The only difference between the floor coating and the boat is that a detached fiberglass item needs support in the form of mesh webbing while the concrete floor is the support of the epoxy coating since it is just applied on the surface.

The installation of an epoxy garage floor covering is simple and easy to do. Also, there are several color options available that you can choose and buy. In the past, epoxy coatings were available in one color only which is industrial grey, but this does not provide any improvement in the looks of the dull grey concrete floor. Today, you can have any color you want and add it as tint for the epoxy coat. You can also buy a color flake kit where you are going to spread color chips over the floor’s surface once it is rolled out but not yet cured. The colored chips can make the floor more vibrant and can really improve the appearance of your garage.

The garage floor is something that is often ignored by the homeowner because of the assumption that concrete is unbreakable. Actually, this is a wrong assumption. You can have a long lasting floor if you are going to protect it now with an epoxy based garage floor system.
