The new 12-megapixel dive camera by SeaLife is outstanding because of its simplicity. Past dive cameras have required the snorkeler or diver to remove a hand from the camera to operate the cluster of buttons on the back of them. The SeaLife DC1200 abandons this button cluster for five piano key-like buttons operated by the thumb only. It also features a large shutter button with fingertip control for zooming and scrolling without letting go of the camera.
The DC1200 also includes four different underwater modes that allow for sharp pictures in any conditions. An included on-screen setup guide makes it easy to configure the camera.
The camera can also be used above water. A slim inner camera is contained within a waterproof cover, and it can be removed to use outside of the water. Features of this 12-megapixel camera include 5X optical zooming, auto-focusing to four inches, and a video mode with sound. A large 3-inch LCD screen makes it easy to frame a shot or view photos.
A SPY mode takes pictures at set intervals, from five seconds to five minutes, to help capture shots of moving subjects or ones that cannot be approached. Photos will be snapped automatically until the memory card fills up, the battery dies, or it is stopped manually by pressing the shutter button.
The DC1200 is waterproof down to 200 feet below sea level, and it only weighs 17 ounces. At 3.5″ X 5.5″ X 3.5″, it easily fits in a hand or pocket. Other features include 25X Mega Zoom, four underwater modes, and 12 modes for on land. It has a rubber exterior for an easy grip and protection. The system contains 29 MB of memory built in, and it has an SD memory card slot for additional storage. The rechargeable battery keeps the camera powered for over 200 pictures and a two-tank dive.
The SeaLife DC1200 can be found at photo and dive shops. An Elite version includes additional features. SeaLife Cameras has been designing waterproof cameras for over 25 years.
