  • Purple Area Rugs Impart Elegance and Richness to a Room

Posted on August 26th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

If you want a stunning, yet warm living area you may want to consider spicing up your decor with purple area rugs, or even a round red rug.  Some people are naturally hesitant about adding bold colored accessories to living areas, however given the right decor they can sometimes be just what is needed to liven up an area.

A purple area rug does not have to look garish; to the contrary a deep, rich shade of purple can actually be very elegant when surrounded by the right accessories and furnishings. Naturally it is important that the rug matches furnishings and window treatments and that it is set on the right type of flooring. It is actually relatively easy to color coordinate using purple as one of the main colors in a room without it looking overdone.  If you do want to set a purple area rug down it is important that you have some other purple items around the room in order to give your room some consistency however you do not want to overdo it.

Some things you could do is add a vase of purple flowers in a couple of spots around the room.  A nice painting on the wall that has the same shade of purple as your rug somewhere in it will also offset your rug nicely. Other colors that blend well with purple include all the shades of pink and light blue.  Green goes very well with purple, so green fabric curtains or furniture covered with green fabric would blend in well.

If you decide on a red area rug instead, complement it with burnt orange and gold, browns and other earth colors. Again, scatter items around the room that either match the shade of the rug or that go well with it.

Do not be afraid to use bold colors when decorating. If used properly they can greatly enhance the overall appearance of a room.

  • Appreciate Carpet Remnants

Posted on August 24th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

We need not put on some glossy touches just to make carpet remnants sound and look classy. For most people, seeing this piece of carpet makes one think that it is cheap and useless. Maybe for a long time, this has been the usual critique that we give these carpet excess. But when times have been very difficult to spend a hundred dollars over a roll of carpet, then the sight of the unwanted and unappreciated carpets have become a blessing.

The explanation for carpet remnants is quite simple. Every time people order a wholesale roll of carpet to decorate the floor of a certain room or office, there are times that excess can exist and these remnants become a throw away and thus considered a waste. For the buyer’s point of view, they cannot see any much use to it so they end up giving or throwing them away. But for the seller, it can still be resold though that would be a much harder feat. That is why the prices of these remnants are significantly lower than the regular carpets.

If you just learn how to appreciate undervalued items then you might just place yourself in a better position over others. You do not have to spend so much just to make your homes and office look suave. The fact of the matter is, styling of rooms are no longer limited to being the same or related to the other rooms. In fact, the new and “in” fashion nowadays are more eclectic so you need not fear being too unusual, putting pieces that don’t really match. For as long as they look cohesive and satisfactory to you then that is great!

The person who has a knack of putting varied items together no matter what their price value may be has an edge over the others. In terms of decorating, what you only need is a good sense of detailing and an eye for the fine structures. It doesn’t have to be luxurious and opulent. Just stick to what works and what makes you happy.

If ever you find small pieces of carpet remnants in an assorted fashion but they do not fit the room you are planning to design then you can combine all of them like a quilt. Pick the designs that look good together and have them bounded. You can ask the carpet seller to trim the edges and make them look like they were originally made that way. A few pulls on both sides, then you got yourself one fabulous item.

  • 5 Advantages of a Free Standing Mirror

Posted on August 19th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

There are at least 5 benefits that you can take advantage of when you own a free standing mirror. Some of them may not have even crossed your mind. The first one is the obvious one – the ability to see your entire body when getting dressed is a great help. The free standing mirror has the extra benefit of being mobile, so you can tilt it or move it around in the room, or even move it from room to room in your home, unlike a mirror that is attached to a wall.

A free standing mirror can also be an attractive piece of accent furniture. You can find beautiful antique floor mirrors that have intricately carved wooden frames or other nice features such as scroll work or brass hinges. The variety of free standing mirrors on the market today includes contemporary designs as well as mirrors designed to go with kids room decor.

Another benefit of these large mirrors is the amount of light they can throw into the room, especially if they can be positioned to reflect natural light from a window or doorway. Free standing mirrors will also add depth and dimension to a room, and the space will seem larger than it really is.

For all of these reasons, free standing mirrors are being found in more and more living rooms and family rooms. They are the perfect vehicle for dressing up an empty space or adding light to a dark corner. They can be set up to reflect light from a fireplace or even to emphasize some architectural details with their reflection. Some free standing mirrors are used without a frame – the mirror can just be leaned up against a wall. Find a great free standing mirror and see if your home could take advantage of some of these benefits.

  • The outdoor polypropylene rug continues to impress us

Posted on August 6th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

I had been looking for some outdoor area rugs for our new exterior living area that we had built, and happened upon quite a few products that were marked outdoor rugs. They seemed to be too soft, and delicate to handle the weather, so I started researching the different resources they were made from and found that the outdoor polypropylene rug types were really made for outside use. They poly fiber is made by chemical companies for thousands of products and they are able create water and heatproof fibers that feel just like organic materials. The one that we selected finally was a southern contemporary rug that feels just like a blend of cotton and wool.

You can take water hose and direct it right on the rug and it just beads off like an automobile does after being waxed. Well, my wife said time will tell, as Max our German shepherd, the kids, and the weather would tell us how great our new purchase will hold up in a few months time. We did have to buy a rug pad that was also made for exterior living, due to the fact that rug wanted to slide on the European marble floors that we had installed during the renovation.

A few weeks and life went to work on our large outdoor floor covering, and food was spilled, and even a few margaritas got to dowse the fibers, and just like magic the stains washed right out with water. After doing a little more research on poly fiber construction, I found that it is made from natural resources like corn, and petrochemical byproducts. It is engineered in such a way that it is impervious to staining, as the density of the material will not allow any absorption whatsoever. This fact makes them a great choice for any outdoor design needs. We are getting a matching runner rug to place on the tiles from the outdoor kitchen over to the pergola next week.

  • Examining Gas Fueled Fire Pits

Posted on August 5th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

Living in modern times we have many conveniences which help us to stay comfortable at all times. One of these great inventions is the air conditioning unit. Capable of keeping us warm in the winter and cool in the summer, AC units are present in our homes, vehicles and workplaces. However, these systems have a tendency to detach us from our roots with nature. Fire pits are different from AC systems in that they create heat from a real fire. While they might not be suitable for use in the car or at work, they can create a peaceful retreat in the solitude of your backyard. They are powerful enough to create enough heat for multiple people to enjoy.

One interesting and relatively new fire pit does not burn wood, but instead uses gas. Specifically, these pits use propane- a gas which most Americans are familiar with. After all, it is used on most gas powered grills. The convenience of propane fire pits is unparalleled- they require no regular maintenance or annoying hassle with lighting solid fuel. Quality fire pits are equipped with an electronic button which creates a spark that starts the fire. Basic models require users to throw a match into the running gas. When lit immediately after the valve is open, these systems are very safe to use.

The propane is sent through a pipe directly into the burner. It is from here that the flames are created. Positioned at the center of the gas fire pit, the burner creates an even distribution of flames which rise up into the air. The height and intensity of the flames is directly controlled by the valve on the propane tank. However, some pits have a valve on their frame- most commonly seen on closed frame pits which keep the tank hidden inside of a compartment.

  • Kitchen Blinds Also Make or Break the Entire Area

Posted on July 16th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

The kitchen plays a very important role in every house. It is usually regarded as the core of the home, a place where the family’s food and beverages are prepared, and where the family members regularly gather. Hence, selecting appliances, furniture items, cooking essentials, and accessories should not be done in a hurry. Even if there are no frequent visitors who head for the kitchen, this area must still be decorated as if guests are often around to appreciate, as well as criticize, the overall appearance. After all, this area is really intended for the whole family. To create a totally cozy, attractive, elegant, and well-functioning spot, kitchen blinds are necessary.

Such blinds should be chosen based on the needs around this particular section of the house, such as the amount of sunlight the entire kitchen is exposed to, the daily hustle and bustle, and its existing overall look or theme. Its area dimensions must also be considered. In the local market and through the internet, there are various types which will absolutely fit the specific needs and the size of a kitchen. The contemporary designs are quite aesthetic and functional; thus, this area will also be updated with the ongoing chic trends while functioning excellently.

There are the venetian blinds, the roller blinds, the Roman blinds, the bamboo blinds, aluminum blinds and many others. The typical materials are wood, plastic, fabric, and aluminum. However, before scrutinizing what design and color will best suit a certain kitchen, the functionality should be checked. Near the sink, the blinds must be able to resist the damages brought about by the regular water splashes. The ideal type for this is the plastic, the fabric, or the aluminum. Meanwhile, in the vicinity of the cooking range, the blinds should have the capacity to withstand the fire’s heat. To this, the ideal type is the aluminum or the wooden.

For the rest of the kitchen, any type of blinds will do, as long as the ventilation around will be good, since there will always be smells and smoke from the cooking, and as long as cleaning the slats will be easy. After ensuring the style’s and the material’s functionalities, the colorful patterns can already be chosen. Undoubtedly, Kitchen Blinds will also either make or break the totality of any kitchen.

  • Why Rubber Matting is Good

Posted on July 14th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

Some types of floor mats may look decent, but once placed on the floor may not behave how you want or expect. Floor mats can shed, slip around, curl up at the corners and not lay flat, mold, or just fall apart after a brief period of use. Others may really attract dirt and be hard to clean. If you have any floor mats that you are less than happy with, perhaps it’s time to consider investing in a rubber mat.
A rubber mat has none of the aforementioned problems and will last a really long time if it’s made of decent, vulcanized rubber. Not only are rubber mats waterproof and easy to clean, they are also priced very reasonably in most cases and offer great protection for floors. Let’s see how we can make good use of rubber mats in our homes.
For one, rubber mats make the best welcome mats. With a rubber door mat, you don’t have to worry about really wiping your feet well as with less sturdy mats which won’t stand up to that kind of abuse. You can really get the dirt and mud off the bottoms of your soles without doing damage, which is important since this is something you’ll be doing daily, perhaps several times a day.
In the home gym, rubber mats protect your floor as well as your home exercise equipment. The last thing you’d want to do is to drop a 20 lb dumbbell through a hardwood floor, or to slip and fall on a sweat soaked floor while engaged in exercise. There’s many quality interlocking rubber gym floors out there to choose from for your workout space at home.
Remember that quality rubber is vulcanized. The best rubber you can get is virgin rubber, though quality recycled rubbers are fine too, as long as they too are vulcanized. Cheap rubber matting uses cheap rubber and is not vulcanized, rather, the rubber is held together by foul smelling and toxic glues. You want to get the good stuff as it is more durable and better for your health.
