It is not surprising that the spectacle of the auroras has created legends as there are the people visiting Norway. The spectacle of the Northern Lights can be found in the Sami drums of the shamans. The phenomenon that I am about to describe in my traveling story has different kinds of names in the Sami culture. For example, it is known by the term Guovssahas which translates into ‘the light which can be heard’. The northern lights had been generally associated with sound by the Sami.
In the Viking period, the northern lights had been the armor of the Valkyrie combatant virgins which shed a flickering strange light. In terms of the Japanese legend, the word implies good luck of conceiving a baby underneath the Northern Lights.
The Reality of the Auroras
The reality of the visit to Norway is impressive, if not poetic. The sun is hailed as being the sire of the auroras. As there are explosions in space, there are the flares which are thrown from the sun into space. This way, clouds are created. In my trip, I learned that the clouds travel in space with a speed ranging from 300 km to 1000 km a second. Once the particles are engaged in a collision with the gases in the atmosphere of the earth, the clouds glow resulting in a magnificent array of brilliant hues.
You too can go on a visit to Norway to see the splendor of the Northern Lights for yourself. I had always wanted to see the lights since my childhood. Visiting the land of Norway was a dream coming true for me. In my search for the Aurora Borealis, I got the pleasure to experience the illusive lights which made the experience altogether emotional for me. You too can try the same for yourself.
