Planning the wedding reception is often the toughest parts of wedding planning. While the ceremony itself tends to be pretty traditional, the reception is a chance for the bride and groom to show a little bit of personality. It’s also usually the part of the wedding that guests remember most- for better or for worse, receptions can go a long way towards making or breaking wedding memories. Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning yours:
1) Make sure the entertainment you choose matches your guest list: While you shouldn’t base your entertainment decisions, around one ultra-conservative guest, it does help to keep in mind your guest list when making your selections. The band or DJ you choose should reflect your taste, but should also be entertainment that will make your guests comfortable.
2) Choose an open bar: Many brides and grooms agonize over the decision of whether to have a cash or open bar. Most weddings nowadays are leaning toward open. Think about it- your guests have interrupted their busy schedules to witness your love, the least you can do is buy them a drink. If you can’t afford a totally open bar, you might consider offering one or two signature drinks for people to choose from. This can cut costs significantly.
3) Choose your venue carefully: When choosing a wedding reception venue, get creative. You don’t have to stick to venues that specialize only in weddings. Many venues that host private parties, corporate meetings, and reunions can also be great, inexpensive options.
4) Acknowledge all of your guests: There is nothing ruder than a bride and groom not saying hi to someone who got them a gift and attended their wedding. No matter how busy you feel, make an effort to say hello to each and every person at your wedding.
