Get Into the Entrepreneurial Spirit With A House Cleaning Business
Posted on June 27th, 2010 No commentsSociety puts heavy emphasis on post secondary education nowadays. It seems that in order to get an average job, you need some form of Bachelor’s degree. Is it really worth it? Obviously, it’s an asset if you have one but in America, where it’s a land of opportunity, what really matters is your how hard you work. This is especially the case if you have the entrepreneurial spirit.
The most important thing when it comes to building a business from scratch is the person behind it who is the driving force. Most often, businesses start out as one man operations. And while some people dream of inventing the next “big thing”, the fact is that some of the most successful businesses are quite mundane.
For example, look at the cleaning business. It’s not very glamorous and it’s not an ideal niche for a lot of people. However, the cleaning business generates billions of dollars each year in revenue. Now, how can you cut into a sliver of the pie? If you are willing to do away with your preconceived notions about cleaning for other people, you can make a lot of money.
In order to break into the boring but lucrative cleaning business, you can advertise yourself as offering residential cleaning services and accept local house cleaning jobs. You can go to these cleaning jobs yourself or you can hire someone to do it while you take care of the business aspects. Often, when first starting out, and to cut down the costs, most people will do both as their customer base is more manageable. However, in the house cleaning business, word gets out fast of good work and your clients actually help you do promotion so expect your client list to grow.
The reason why the client base can grow so fast is because for the most part, customers are loyal. They don’t want to go through the hassle of getting another housekeeper because of the training involved of telling the hired help of where things go. And there’s the ever present danger of hiring an unknown person to work in your house where they have access to your valuables. Clients are willing to pay extra to have someone familiar and who has received good recommendations from their friends.
Therefore, if you have an itch to start a business but you lack post secondary education, it might not be necessary to build a successful business. All it takes is hard work and in the house cleaning business, that’s exactly what you need.
