How To Find Large Cardboard Boxes

When you’re moving homes, there’s no better friend than a sturdy large cardboard box. The only problem is, it can be expensive to buy enough boxes to hold everything in your home. Luckily there are several ways to go about finding used cardboard boxes that will work just as well for you, and save you a lot of money in the long run.

The first place I always go when I’m looking for boxes is the grocery store. It may seem unusual to you, but the grocery store in the one place that I know gets shipments in on a daily basis, and so they’re certain to have a steady flow of boxes coming in. The boxes that hold dried goods are likely the best bet, since canned food is heavy enough to wear the boxes thin, and fresh fruits and vegetables are likely wet enough to dampen and weaken the cardboard. But just ask a manager what they have lying around, and you’ll probably find everything you could possibly need.

If this isn’t quite enough, then go to any store in the area. A department store may have what you’re looking for, especially since more and more, department stores sell food as well as clothing and other goods. But really, you’re mostly looking for size here. The larger the store, the more storage containers they should have.

Finally, if you’re out of ideas or places to check, stores like The Container Store will be willing to sell you all the large cardboard boxes you need. Just be warned, they don’t come terribly cheap, unless you’re buying them in massive bulk, so try to exhaust the other possibilities first.

It’s not difficult to find cardboard boxes for free, it just takes some time. Start early enough before you need to do any packing and you can get away with paying very little for boxes.
