Anyone in the know will tell you just how important it is that you nurture your childs creative side. If they show an interest in art, music, or reading, then it is extremely important that you as a parent help to develop that passion and give them access to the resources they will need to learn more about it. This is not such a difficult task, no one is asking you to know all about the subject that your child is showing interest in, but you need to point them in the right direction so that they can start experimenting on their own.

For example, last week my son, who has just turned 5, started to show a real interest in drawing. It all started quite innocently while I was on the phone. I was absent mindedly doodling pictures of cartoon fish as I was talking, I hardly even knew that I was doing it, but my kids came up to me when I got off the phone and asked how I did that. Well, I’m no Picasso, but I showed him what I did, and then I took it one step further. We went for a walk down the local library and got a couple of books out on drawing. I haven’t heard a peep out of him for a couple of days now, and it’s great to see all this creative juice flowing.
