Swimming Like a Real Mermaid

Disney’s Ariel in The Little Mermaid has inspired a whole generation of swimmers of all ages. They are not content to simply read or watch stories about mermaids, they want to become these sea beauties themselves. Now, with online mermaid tail companies such as AquaTails, anyone can get a sparkly fish tail and dive into the ocean or pool as a mythical creature.

This new sport is called mermaiding, or mer-swimming to allow for the growing number of mermen. Putting on a mermaid or merman tail and swimming like a fish is the most unusual fun you will ever have.

Mermaids tails are made from a variety of stretchy fabrics, such as nylon-spandex, neoprene or silicone rubber. They come in all styles and colors, with extra options offered such as dorsal fins or jellyfish-like sheer fabric off the end of the fluke which undulates in the water like magic.

Swimming in a mermaid or merman tail is the most unusual and fun workout you will ever have. The mermaid is having so much fun she doesn’t even notice that she is also working out her abs, arms and legs and overall toning. She is learning to perfect her dolphin kick with her legs bound together, with learning how to hold her breath longer, with practicing diving down as deep as she can, and with learning a repertoire of underwater tricks and twirls to perform in her tail.

The most amazing aspect of swimming like a merman or mermaid is gliding through the clear blue underwater world. With a flick of your tail, your monofin propels you forward powerfully, and you feel like a true sea creature. Whether you mermaid in the ocean or the pool, there is nothing like it. You learn to relax and become comfortable swimming underwater, without goggles or masks. You feel at home in this world.
