Alicante- the land of festivals

If you are looking for fun in the sun, crazy parties and wild nights then Alicante is definitely where you should be. This magical and mesmerizing city is the capital of the province Alicante situated in the community of Valencia. It is one of the most important sources of National income for Spain due to its numerous tourist attractions. One of these is its festivals. Alicante boasts a range of festivals and events that cater to a wide variety of tourists. Dancing, food, music and games are only some of the activities on offer at the “City of Lights” making it attractive for all ages.

The city’s New Year celebrations are famous and very crowded. Alicante is the city from where the popular and now well-known grape eating tradition began and soon spread to the rest of Spain. Thousands of locals and tourists gather to await the striking of the clock to begin popping grapes in time with the clock.

The popular and historic festival of the Christians and the Moors is celebrated here as in the rest of the country but with more color and pomp. People dress up for the4 occasion in traditional battle attire and enact the historical scene for the cheering crowds.

The festival of the Three Kings or “ Reyes Magos”  is especially popular among children as it is the big gift opening day in Spain. Children all over Spain wait expectantly for the dawn after the festival to gather the gifts they received from the Three Kings.

For a city that has a long history of being passed from the rule of one kingdom to another, it is no surprise that the traditions and culture reflect this tumultuous and varied development. Almost every month of the year is dedicated to one “Fiesta” or another. This means that Alicante Spain is a constant hotspot for entertainment and celebration.
