Choose Brooklyn Oak Furniture For Environmentally Friendly Designs
Posted on December 28th, 2010 No commentsAs many of us are growing more conscious of the burden we place on our planet, we are looking for many ways to reduce our impact and ecological footprint. We change the type of cars we drive, the way we power our homes, the food we eat, so why no the products we buy? Why not environmentally friendly furniture?
At first this probably sounds like a pretty silly notion, and when trying to imagine such a thing, likely you have images of an incredibly uncomfortable – and not very pleasing to the eye – sofa made from recycled soda bottles. While I’m sure this probably does exist, this is not what you are limited to if you want to decorate your house in an environmentally responsible manner. It is possible to have high quality, high fashion, environmentally conscious design. Just take Brooklyn Oak furniture as an example.
Brooklyn Oak furniture is a beautiful, stylish, versatile, and durable type of furniture design – that also happens to be pretty inherently environmentally friendly, and with Brooklyn Oak furniture, you certainly do not have to sacrifice style, craftsmanship, or attention to detail. Made from only the finest solid pieces of wood sourced from American and Russian Oak trees, Brooklyn Oak furniture is one of the hardest and most durable styles available on the market.
And Brooklyn Oak furniture is naturally beautifully, with an excellent, well defined grain and a naturally beautiful, rich color. This means that it only requires a bit of Tung Oil to seal and treat for home use. Tung Oil is perhaps the least harsh of all varnishes and sealants, and it does not mar up or muddy up the natural beauty of the wood, making Brooklyn Oak furniture, naturally, one of the most environmentally friendly styles of design around.
You can take your love of Brooklyn Oak furniture and the environment one step farther and really choose furniture that is unique, one of a kind, and harmless to the environment. This would be Brooklyn Oak furniture made from salvaged American and Russian Oak wood. Certainly lacking nothing in character, and highly suited for making beautiful, one-of-a-kind furniture, Brooklyn Oak furniture made from salvaged wood actually removes waste from the waste stream and eliminates the need to cut down virgin trees for your furniture. This allows you to have the high style you want, without any guilt over the damage it caused the environment.

Try Your Luck In Making Quinoa!
Posted on November 15th, 2010 No commentsNot only is quinoa one of the healthiest foods you can include in your diet, it also can be made in many different ways. Not only is it fantastic as a breakfast cereal, but you will also find it very easy to add quinoa to black bean recipes. You will certainly face no problem preparing it on your stove top or using a steam cooker. Alike rice, quinoa is cooked by applying the absorption method. Anyhow one can used it as a crunchy topping for yogurt or as a substitution for croutons on a salad.
There are many food items which are highly recommended for its nutritional profile but are not easy to take because of their bitter taste. In this respect, quinoa is an exemplary exception which balances between the nutrition issues and taste. If you are not acquainted with quinoa before, then you should try the following recipe!

Choosing a new Style of Furniture for your Bedroom
Posted on September 30th, 2010 No commentsThere is a new line of furniture designed for use in the bedroom that is very contrary to its name. The shabby chic bedroom furniture is actually very stylish in design and is often found in a pristine white. The line offers a large variety of pieces including vanity tables and dressers. The vanity comes with a table unit that has a pull out center drawer. It also has an attached upper mirror section that has three parts. The center mirror is attached to the table as a stationary item, while the two outer sides are on hinges so you can easily move them to see all sides of your face.
The line of shabby chic furniture also includes a full size armoire. This unit comes with two lower drawers and an upper section with shelves. The upper body has two doors with glass inserts so you can see the items on the inside shelves. The dresser units come as standard drawer pieces that can have 3 or 4 full size drawers. There is a matching nightstand, which also has several smaller sized drawers for easy access to frequently used items. The top surface of the nightstand is large enough to accommodate placing a standard size table lamp on it.
You will also find several styles of headboards in this collection. If you have an entire room to furnish, you could purchase the shabby chic bedroom furniture set, which will include the headboard, dresser and matching nightstand or vanity. This will create a professionally styled room where all of the main furnishings are designed the same. There is also a blanket chest available for purchase, which is generally placed at the foot of a bed. All of these pieces are constructed of a synthetic composite material so they are designed to be stylish and durable.

Use Your Tea Set to Serve Teas Well
Posted on August 23rd, 2010 No commentsWhen you come around to make a good cup of tea, consider doing it in the good old way. It doesn’t make the tea taste that much better, but you get the chance to enjoy the process. Doing everything like people did in the 19th century adds to the experience of drinking tea. The whistling of the kettle, the details and delicacy of the teapot, the cups and the smell of the garden in the afternoon are all factors that let you enjoy every sip better; even if the result is just the same as you’d get from a filter tea.
Make sure that you use clean pottery only. It’s not a matter of opinion either; tea is made just below boiling point, which doesn’t kill all the bacteria. If you want to stay safe -as you should-, always clean everything thoroughly first. Use water that’s filtered, but not boiled for a long time. Boiling takes away the gases and minerals enclosed in it. Simple tap water is often good enough for a good pot of tea as long as the municipal network is good in your town.
Aside the teapots and tea cups everything can come from the ordinary counter top kitchen utensil holder. Go on, and put some water in the kettle, once it boils, bring it down to barely shivering. It will make the broiling tea stay at around 92 degrees Celsius (about 195 F), which is the perfect temperature to extract the taste and the aromatics from leaves.
You don’t have to buy the most expensive tea leaves you can find; average products yield in satisfactory results more often than you’d think. It’s not the price that makes the tea better than others, but the care with which you handle it during the making. The little details make it much more enjoyable. On a nice afternoon there is probably no better way to wind down than to put a chair in the backyard and sip away at a nice cup of tea.

Plumbing Tips: Replacing a Faulty Compression Faucet
Posted on August 16th, 2010 No commentsRather than calling in the plumbers to replace a faulty faucet, you can easily perform this plumbing task yourself as long as you have a pipe wrench, pliers and a Philips head screwdriver; three tools that are commonly found in most homes.
The very first thing to do is to locate and turn off the water to the faucet. The valve for this is usually found directly under the sink. Rotate it till it is firmly shut, then open the faucet to make sure that there is no water coming out.
Next unscrew or pop off the cap on the handle so you can get to the screw that is hidden underneath. Once the cap is off, unscrew the screw that attaches the handle to the valve. When you have taken it out you should be able to take the handle off. You will then see another cover which is over your valve stem assembly parts. Unscrew that cover and take it off.
You will then be able to remove your valve stem and the assembly. First unscrew the nut on top of it with your wrench, and then unscrew the whole vale stem assembly part with pliers or a wrench. Once it is removed you should see a washer, also held in place with a screw. Undo this screw and then take the washer out. You will then be able to put the new washer in place.
Finally reverse all the steps above until the unit is assembled again. Once you are sure everything is tightened you can turn on the water and open your faucet to make sure that it is working properly. You may also want to replace any screws or nuts that have deteriorated while replacing the washer. If you are unsure what size washer your faucet uses you can leave the faucet un-assembled and take the washer with you to a home repair shop. That way you can ensure you get the correctly sized washer.

There Is Nothing Like Crib Bedding
Posted on September 29th, 2009 No commentsI think we can all agree that there in nothing as cute as babies and everything related to these wonderful creatures. The clothes that you can buy for them are simply adorable and those little baby shoes. If you are a parent yourself you probably feel the same way and besides finding the most adorable baby outfit you have probably also tried to find baby crib bedding sets that were just as cute. The fact that there is so much cute baby gear is simultaneously a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing because you can always find something that will make your baby look even cuter but it is a curse since it is often rather expensive and once you start shopping it is difficult to stop. You can quickly find yourself in a situation that costs you several hundred dollars.
