  • Popular Probiotic Yogurt

Posted on October 13th, 2009 admin No comments

Probiotic yogurt is a popular topic in health news but confusion exists about what it really is. Basically, it is any yogurt containing active, live cultures of bacteria considered helpful to the human body. Yogurt is an ancient food made by combining milk with live, active bacteria cultures to produce a natural fermentation of the milk. Active bacterial cultures are contained in all yogurt; however, only yogurt having both active and live cultures is considered probiotic yogurt. Many of the health benefits associated with yogurt come from the live bacteria cultures not the active ones. All yogurt is not equally beneficial as not all have live cultures; some have only active cultures. Only yogurt specifically labeled as having both live and active cultures is probiotic.
