  • Why Rubber Matting is Good

Posted on July 14th, 2010 GuestPoster No comments

Some types of floor mats may look decent, but once placed on the floor may not behave how you want or expect. Floor mats can shed, slip around, curl up at the corners and not lay flat, mold, or just fall apart after a brief period of use. Others may really attract dirt and be hard to clean. If you have any floor mats that you are less than happy with, perhaps it’s time to consider investing in a rubber mat.
A rubber mat has none of the aforementioned problems and will last a really long time if it’s made of decent, vulcanized rubber. Not only are rubber mats waterproof and easy to clean, they are also priced very reasonably in most cases and offer great protection for floors. Let’s see how we can make good use of rubber mats in our homes.
For one, rubber mats make the best welcome mats. With a rubber door mat, you don’t have to worry about really wiping your feet well as with less sturdy mats which won’t stand up to that kind of abuse. You can really get the dirt and mud off the bottoms of your soles without doing damage, which is important since this is something you’ll be doing daily, perhaps several times a day.
In the home gym, rubber mats protect your floor as well as your home exercise equipment. The last thing you’d want to do is to drop a 20 lb dumbbell through a hardwood floor, or to slip and fall on a sweat soaked floor while engaged in exercise. There’s many quality interlocking rubber gym floors out there to choose from for your workout space at home.
Remember that quality rubber is vulcanized. The best rubber you can get is virgin rubber, though quality recycled rubbers are fine too, as long as they too are vulcanized. Cheap rubber matting uses cheap rubber and is not vulcanized, rather, the rubber is held together by foul smelling and toxic glues. You want to get the good stuff as it is more durable and better for your health.
