  • Submitting To Google Slowing You Down?

That crazy “Submit Google” option is a pretty fine idea.  It could take a small, obscure website and get it out on search result pages for all to see.  Once Google knows who you are, you can’t lose, right?  Well, in theory, no.  Trouble is, once Google knows who you are, they don’t really seem to care.  A lot of people who’ve tried to submit their website URLs to Google directly have found that it takes nigh eternity for Google to do anything about it.  And once they do, your website will probably be pretty low on the result pages, since it probably doesn’t have a very high relevance rank.

The thing is, if you’ve got a page worth a decent rank, it’s probably already on Google’s search engine.  Google finds good sites.  It’s what they do.  So if your site has good, solid information, people will link to it.  And the GoogleBot web crawler will follow those links to your site.  Bam! Discovered.

Making money from Google isn’t always this ineffective; AdWords and AdSense are both programs that have received high praise from users.  If you’re not familiar with the programs, that’s alright – they’re not hard to understand.  Both operate by basic marketing tactics; they’ve just been applied to an online advertising space.

Google AdWords works just like a billboard company; you tell Google what kind of ads you want to run for your site, and Google finds your target audience.  Every time an ad is clicked on, you get a visitor – and a fee.  Fortunately, Google posts enough ads that they don’t need to charge a lot for their ads.  This also means you’ve got a lot of viewers in exchange for those ads.

AdSense is fairly similar to AdWords, except for one twist: you’re the one doing the advertising.  Google posts ads on your website, depending on the kind of audience your site targets.  Every time an ad is clicked, the advertising client owes Google – and you – a fee.
