Wii Accessories: Controllers And Add On Accessories
Posted on November 13th, 2009 No commentsWhen it comes to the Nintendo Wii, you maybe confused by all the extra Wii accessories that you can get to enhance your gaming experience. Which ones do you really need? There are some accessories that will help to protect your Wii and accessories, there are others that enhance your overall gaming experience, and still others that are more for specific games or types of games.
One thing to help make things clearer is to explain the difference between controllers and add on accessories. The standard Wii package comes with two controllers: a Wii Remote and Nunchuk. You can play with up to four controllers at one time. So if you want to have head to head play or even have four controllers playing at the same time, you can buy extra Remotes and Nunchuks as add on accessories. There is also the Classic Controller which can be used if you want to play some of the other classic Nintendo games.
The controllers combine the look and feel of a remote control with cutting edge motion sensing technology, which is what gives gamers such a fun and realistic active play experience. The Wii Remote is wireless and operates off of short wave Bluetooth radio. The controller is sensitive to both pointing and movement and can measure movements in all directions and speeds. The Nunchuk is another type of controller that is shaped to fit the game player’s hand and comes with an analog stick as well as two buttons which help with character movements and actions. The Nunchuk plugs into the Wii Remote. The Classic Controller is a type of expansion controller. It allows you to play not only Wii games but traditional Nintendo games, including multi platform and virtual games.
Other Wii remote accessories that are sometimes mistakenly called controllers are really shells or attachments, or hollow plastic pieces, that attach to a controller to change the look or grip to a Wii Remote or Nunchuck. Some of these include things like the Wii zapper, the Wii racing wheels, and a lot of the sport attachments like the tennis racket, baseball bat, and fishing reel. These add on accessories can add a lot of enjoyment to some of these games and will also help you to perform specific motions better, but it is the controller that really drives the play. The extra attachments can be purchased separately and there are also game bundles you can buy which includes the game disc plus other accessories you may need to play the game.
